Pipul TV NLO commends NRA over officiating

After the end of first round of matches in the Pipul TV Nationwide League Division One , Shola Ogunnowo, the Chief Operating Officer of the League has comended the leadership of the  Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) over the performance  of the Referees assigned to officiate league games at the cradle of football in Nigeria.

Speaking to the sporting press in Abuja on Wednesday, Ogunnowo said that the league has recorded some dynamic results on the field of play, some clubs painfully lost at home and the following weekend won at away and despite some results not favourable sometimes to these clubs, there have not been any form of violence at the league venues due to poor officiating from the referees, rather the  atmosphere have been  very peaceful.

“  We are very happy with the outocme of the games in the first round of the Nationwide League. The officiating has been very good, although not perfect, but we commend the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) for the manner of officiating in the league” Ogunnowo said.

Adding  that “  Certainly we expected the teams  that lost be it at home or away to grumble bitterly , but we have never heard of such and there have not been any form of violence or crisis despite human errors some of the referees might had committed in games”

Ogunnowo also commended the Match Appointment Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation  over the calibre of Match Commissioners in the Pipul TV NLO games and they have been very firm adminstering the proceeding  of games at the league venues.

“  The Match Commissioners too have been up to their responsibilities at the league games , curtailing the excesses of some of the club officials to ensure that the games went on smoothly without any form of distruptions”

… Warns Ekiti FA over armed security men

Meanwhile, the league body has warned the Ekiti State Football Association over the continued breaches of FIFA rules  by allowing armed security men to be present at the league venue during Pipul TV NLO games at the Kayode Oluyemi stadium. Ado Ekiti.

This was dsiclosed by Shola Ogunnowo, the Chief Operating Officer of the Pipul TV Nationwide League as he frowned  at the leadership of the Ekiti F.A for going against rules and regulations of FIFA over football games at the stadium which states that armed security men carrying guns and ammunitions are not allowed into the stadium to maintain law and order.

“ The Ekiti State Football Association has not really lived up to expectations as the F.A has continually breached the FIFA rules regardinjg the use of security officers at the  stadium. The First incidence was in the first league game at the Kayode Oluyemi staidium, Ado Ekiti where armed police offciers and soldiers were deployed to the stadium. This is forbideen by FIFA and the NLO Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali warned the State Football Association” Ogunnowo said.

Unfortunately the same ugly incidence repeated itself last weekend when Phoenix ASC tackled Kwara Utd Feeders’ team at the same stadium.

“ Despite the warning to the warning to the Ekiti State FA,  this incidence occured again during the league game between Phoenic ASC and Kwara Utd Feeders’ FC on Friday 9th June, 2017 at the Kayode Oluyem Stadium. The NLO Secretariat also received complaint of threat to life from the away team with arms branding police and soldiers during the game” he added.

Furthermore, he added that “ It is instructive that, henceforth Ekiti State FA  should on no occassion allow such ugly incidence to repeat itself in any football event , we are not in war zone and there are no incidence of violence or unrest in Ekiti State that warrants  such action”

Ogunnowo informed that this is the final warning on the matter any further breach of football rules by Ekiti State Football Association will be met with severe sanctions.

“  This is the final warning on this issue , a repeat will leave the NLO with no option than to simply apply the deserved sanctions  as stipulated by FIFA /NFF rules and regulations” he concluded.

NLO: A stepping stone to my career – Alhassan

Current goals scoring sensation in Akwa Utd this season with 10 goals, Ibrahim Alhassan has attributed his rapid development in the round leather game to the experience he gathered while playing in the Nationwide League with Sarduana FC of Kano few years ago.

Alhassan, who was the only out – field local player in the Super Eagles camp enroute to the ill fated 2-0 loss the team  suffered to the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in an African Nations qualifying games last weekend  has charged the upcoming players not to despite or take for granted their career while playing in the Nationwide league, as he revealed that so many football matches he played for Sarduana FC of Kano state at the grassroot level helped to develop him into a better player, noting further that the league was a stepping stone to his career.

“ I am glad with my progress in football and i want to say that everything began at the amateur level which is now known as the Nationwide League. I played for Sarduana FC of Kano then. We played a lot of matches amongst the various teams in the state and these games were very helpful in developing me as a better player and i am still developing now as Akwa United and a player that just tasted a feel of the senior national team” Alhassan said.

“ i will admonish the up coming players, especially the ones currently playing in the Nationwide League not to take what they are being taught lighly, but they should take it very serious and play their football in the Nationwide League with the seriousness it deserves.

Despite not featuring for Nigeria in the game against South Africa, Alhassan opined that he has learnt more about while in the Super Eagles camp  , while in France where the team two friendly games and in Uyo where the team lost to South Africa.

“ I have gained more experience in the Super Eagles and learnt more about football playing in the midst of very good players, exhibiting great skills and knowledge of the game and i am very optimistic that this will also be reflected in my game in the Nigeria Professional Football League as the league progresses. However, i cannot deny  the fact that it all began for me at the amateur level, which is now known as Nationwide League.
